A new initiative of our center is something we've dubbed "The Temporal Huddle".  Our basic objective is to foster and encourage communication across different TDLC networks. We hope that the trainees will continue to be a powerful means for sharing knowledge and ideas across the center. To strengthen our center members’ understanding of TDLC research taking place outside their network, the trainee committee will implement an all-year reading and discussion program that takes advantage of existing mechanisms but hopes to use them in a transformational manner.

Each month, the trainee committee will find one volunteer trainee in each network, who will select a recent article published by a TDLC author(s) from a network outside their own. The paper will be read at the trainee regular lab meeting/reading group and the trainee will be in charge of formulating one or two questions for the paper's authors. An abstract and a version of the email exchange will be featured in a section of the TDLC web site.

We expect this program to have many positive repercussions. Trainees will increase their understanding of TDLC members and TDLC research in the process of selecting an article that may be of interest to their lab. Their lab members (either TDLC members or not) will gain better knowledge of recent TDLC research and will be more likely to make links to their own work. Direct exchanges between TDLC trainees and TDLC PIs will be facilitated, helping to break the ice and promote further exchanges. Finally, this section of the web site will showcase regular positive cross-lab interactions, providing all TDLC members with evidence of the feasibility of cross-network interactions.
